I know myself too well to press start.
I watch in Japanese, English and Swedish, sometimes in the same evening. Every tracker I tried wanted me to pick a language first and then start a stopwatch. I know myself too well. I was never going to keep that up. I wanted something that did all the work and then showed me where my time had gone.
So I built the one I wanted. It starts and stops on its own, works out which language is playing, and tells a session I'm watching from one that's just playing while I cook. The total hours matter, but I want to know how much of that was me actually paying attention.
It started as only that. But I like detail, and it's fun to see where the hours really went. Was it mostly YouTube or Netflix, night or day, Monday or Friday? You can't see any of that in a single total.
Basically it was only ever meant to be for me. It grew into something bigger and more polished than that, so I figured I'd share it, for free.
It's still a one-person project. YouTube, Netflix and Twitch work well. YouTube Music works too, but I keep it apart, and the reason is further down.
